Furniture Care

Waxing Furniture

Wood furniture is a great investment that needs a lot of T-L-C. Waxing your furniture at least once or twice a year will provide a beautiful luster and great protection.

1. Clean the piece to remove any surface dirt using a slightly damp rag dipped in a mild soap and water mixture. Make sure that you dry it completely with another cloth before proceeding.

2. Apply a thin coat of wax with a soft lint-free cloth working with the grains of the wood not in circles. Make sure that you apply the wax evenly and that you press it into dents, dings and crevices.

3. Allow the wax to dry until it forms a light haze. Use a new lint-free cloth folded into several thicknesses to buff the wax to a shine. Work with the grain of the wood and don't be afraid to se some elbow grease. Continue buffing until you have achieved the sheen you desire.

4. If you decide the piece is too shiny you can lightly buff the surface with some quad zero steel wool to dull the shine. Gorgeous.

At one time, wainscoting was seen only in very expensive homes, but it's now used in all size of houses as a way to add a decorative touch. When the wainscoting is offset with wallpaper borders, it looks like the room was decorated by a professional interior decorator.
