Staple Guns

Whether it is electric or manual a staple gun will make short work of household jobs from framing to upholstering, so make sure you keep one in your home.

1. To ensure that you're staples end up flush with the surface of your project make sure that you use the correct size staple for the job. The most common range in size from a quarter inch to nine-sixteenth inch, the smaller versions are for light upholstery and window treatments, while the largest are used for roofing felt and insulation board.

2. A new trend in staplers is the forward action model. When you use them, you push up toward the top of the device rather than down like the traditional models. This model gives less recoil and will cause less fatigue as you work.

3. When you're stapling screening or fabric make sure that you install the staples on an angle to the weave for a stronger hold.

4. Bring the make and model of your stapler with you when buying replacement staples. They are not one size fits all.

5. Remember to always wear eye protection when using staple guns!
