Sanding Tips

Have you been looking for some easier ways to sand your wood projects? Here are some easy ideas to help you out!

1. Use a sanding block; this will ensure that you end up with an even finish. Remember to always sand wood with the grain, not against it.

2. When using more than one grit sandpaper, work from lower number to higher and try not to skip any. For example, go from a 60 grit to an 80 grit rather than skipping straight to 120.

3. To check the smoothness of your finish, pull a knee high stocking over your hand and run it across the surface. The nylon will snag on any rough spots, so you'll know right where you need more work.

4. To sand a tiny item, tack a piece of sandpaper to a flat surface, grit side up. Once it's in place, move the object over the sandpaper and you'll have more control which, in turn, will give you a better finish.

5. Store your sandpaper in yellow kraft envelopes. You can write on the front what grit is inside and it will help keep your sandpaper from curling over time.
