Lubricants

The old saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but what do you do if you have run out of oil?

1. To oil a squeaky hinge try rubbing it down with some mineral oil, and then opening and closing the door several times to work it in.

2. Or, remove the pin from the hinges and one at a time rub a pencil lead over the hinge, then put it back into the hinge, squeaks will disappear.

3. For a sticky bike chain, pour some vegetable oil on a soft cloth and run it over the entire length of the chain, or use the vegetable oil spray, which will get the oil right where you need it. (Don't use vegetable oil as a lubricant inside, it can turn rancid which will smell bad).
