Lock Problems

Have you ever tried to unlock a door and the key wouldn't turn? It is a pretty common problem. Here are a couple of "key" ideas to help you out!

1. If you don't have any penetrating oil around, spray some non-stick vegetable oil into the lock and on the key. Turn it back and forth several times to lubricate all of the moving parts.

2. Rub a pencil across the cut end of your key. After you get some buildup on it, insert it into the lock. Turn the key completely around so that the graphite from the pencil will work itself in.

3. Talcum powder will have the same effect as graphite. Just dip your key into the powder and follow the procedure in Idea 2. Or, get a small bottle and squirt the powder directly into the lock.

4. If you live in a cold weather area and find yourself with frozen locks, you can heat your key with a match or lighter and then try it in the lock. The heat from the key should melt the ice enough to loosen it up.
