Install A Vanity

You have your old bathroom vanity out. You've done the repairs and patching. Now it's time to install the new vanity.

1. Measure the height and width of the vanity, and transfer the measurements to the wall using a straight edge to make a chalk line of the vanity on the wall. Making the marks in chalk makes it easier to remove when you're finished.

2. Find and mark the wall studs within the outline, you need to hit at least one during installation.

3. If there is no opening in the back of your vanity, measure the location of the pipes and then cut access holes.

4. Remove the doors, it will make it easier to install the vanity and you'll be less likely to damage them while you're working.

5. Put the cabinet in place and check to make sure it is level across the front edge and also from front to back, then check for plum on each side. If it isn't level or plumb, use wood shims to get it into the right position.

6. Use three-inch wood screws and some washers to attach the vanity to the wall studs through the wood panel that runs across the back, and then re-attach the doors.

7. If your vanity and sink are two separate pieces you will need to apply a bead of caulk around the top edge of the vanity and set the sink on to that. Now all that's left to do is hook up the plumbing.
