Install a Toilet

Installing a toilet is an easy job with a just little know how!

1. The bowl. Carefully turn it upside down, press a wax ring firmly in place over the drain opening. Just remember to remove the cover from the ring.

2. Make sure that the floor flange is clean and free of obstructions. Position the toilet over the flange and line up the bolts in the floor with the holes in the base. Set it down gently and secure the bolts with washers and nuts.

3. Now for the tank, turn it upside down and set the large rubber washer in place over the tailpiece of the flush valve.

4. Turn it back over and position the washer you just installed over the inlet opening on the back edge of the toilet bowl. Make sure that the boltholes inside the tank line up with the holes on the top of the bowl.

5. Put a rubber washer on each tank bolt and then secure it in place. The head of the bolt goes into the tank, and the washers and nuts on the bottom side of the bowl. Use a box wrench to tighten those nuts.

6. Next cut a length of supply tubing to fit between the shutoff valve and the supply shank. Slip a coupling nut, compression nut and the ferrule onto the tube, slip the tube into the shutoff valve and then the supply shank onto the tank. Tighten the coupling nut over the supply shank and then compression nut over the shutoff.

7. Turn on the water supply to fill the tank. The water level must reach the water line marked. If it doesn't, you may need to make a slight adjustment to the float rod.
