Home Safety Checklist
Everyone wants to be safe in their own home. We buy all kinds of
safety devices, but there are some things that you may not have
thought of. Here is a checklist.
1. Have a list of emergency numbers by the phone and let
even the smallest family members know how important it is. List
9-1-1 first and include doctors, close family and poison
control. If you have smaller children you may even want to put
pictures by the number so kids know exactly who they're calling.
2. Check large glass panels like patio door and shower
doors for safety glass labeling. It is located in a lower corner
and will have the manufacturer, the type of glass and its
thickness. All large panels should be made of safety glass.
3. Have a step stool on each level of your home. This way
no one will be tempted to climb on an unstable chair to hang a
picture or reach something on a high shelf.
4. Check handrails on all staircases in your home. A
loose handrail can cause a nasty fall. If you find a damaged
railing, make any necessary repairs right away.
5. Stock a home survival kit in case of emergencies.
Include bottled water, non -perishable food, a battery operated
radio, batteries, a flashlight, a first aid kit and blankets.

Slipping and Sliding with Metal Stair Treds
Most people don’t really consider all the times they climb
stairs throughout the day, because often they involve just two
or three steps. But when winter comes, even one stair step can
be treacherous. Metal stair treds are durable and can be
purchased with a design that makes them easier to grip and
thus reduce falls.

Stair Makeovers For Style
Often when you walk into a house, the first thing you see is a
set of steps. Often the stairs are functional, but actually
detract from the interior décor. First impressions do count in
a house and making the entryway inviting contributes to the
whole atmosphere of the house. Since stairs are usually so
close to the front door, it only makes sense to have a
stairwell that enhances the appeal of the home.
