Furniture Layout

Whether you're buying new furniture or just changing the room around, testing the layout can save you a lot of time and aggravation.

1. There are a couple of ways that you can check a layout. The first, make a scale drawing of your room using either some graph paper or your computer. Then make scale cutouts of the pieces that you want in the room. This process will allow you to move the furniture around without a lot of effort or check to see if the pieces will fit without moving them in first!

2. If you're not good at visualizing with a drawing, then try it life size. Trace the measurements of your furniture onto some craft paper or out of date wrapping paper. Cut the various pieces of "furniture" to size and take them into the room. Lay the pieces out on the floor to get an idea of how they will fit in the room. If you're worried about how high they will sit on the wall, mark the height of piece on the wall with some low tack painter's tape.
