Fire Safety

Making sure that your home is fire safe, and that you are ready in case of an emergency is easy. I have the hints you need.

1. Sit down with your family and plan an escape route with a designated meeting Place, and stress that no one should ever go back inside a burning house.

2. Ready your home with some basic safety equipment: Smoke detectors for each Level and an escape ladder for the second floor. A couple of other fire fighters are baking soda and salt. They will put out small grease fires or smother flames in the fireplace if you suspect a chimney fire.

3. A couple of hints to help you prevent a fire, or stop the spread of a small one. Never throw re-lighting birthday candles in the garbage. You should soak them, wick end down in a glass of water, to ensure that they are out.

4. If you find yourself with an oven fire, turn the oven off and leave the door shut. This should extinguish the flames.

5. Never throw water on an electrical, or grease fire. Use a fire extinguisher.
