Drill Bits

Not exactly sure what drill bit you need for the job? I have a guide to get you drilling in the right direction.

1. The most common bit that you will need is a wood boring twist bit. These bits have a pointed tip and a two cutting levels. One that cut the wood and another that lifts the wood chips out of the hole. I recommend buying a set of these bits, they're inexpensive and you'll be able to use them for most of your projects at home.

2. A spade bit, they resemble a spade with a pointed tip and a wide flat, cutting surface. Use them for the same projects as twist bits, but when you need a larger hole.

3. For even larger holes when installing doorknobs or cutting in for pipes you'll want a hole saw. Which is simply a round saw with a drill bit protruding from the center to help hold the saw steady while drilling.

4. Another type of bit you may want to pick up is a masonry bit also known as a carbide bit. This type is used on brick, concrete and cinder block.

5. Tips for drilling. Always hold your drill perpendicular to the surface you're drilling; you can stick a small level to the top of your drill to help you.

6. If you need more light for a project, tape a tiny flashlight to the top of your drill for an illuminating helper.

7. Make sure you wear your safety glasses whenever you're working with tools.

It takes less energy to make a new tile from recycled glass then it does to produce a new tile from scratch. In the home, glass tiles can be used as extra insulation on the wall or floor while adding a decorative touch.
