How to Care for Salt Water Pools

More and more people are choosing salt water pools over chlorine. The advantages are many. One of the biggest advantages is that caring for salt water pools is less messy, dangerous, and aggravating than caring for the traditional chlorine pool.

If you have a salt water pool, you already know that the name salt water is a bit misleading. The water actually contains chlorine, just not the same as with the traditional chlorine pool. This difference occurs because the salt water pools use chlorine generators, sometimes referred to as a “salt chlorinator.”

Salt chlorinators chlorinate your pool without the effects of harmful regular chlorine…and use and care of salt water pools is much easier than the traditional chlorine pool. Since the chlorine is generated on a continual basis while the pool pump is operating, you don’t have to purchase or handle chlorine to maintain your pool.

You also don’t have to worry about algae as part of the care for your salt water pool. The continuous pumping of chlorine through the generator reduces the growth of algae so you don’t need to do any extra maintenance.

Care for Salt Water Pools

The cells of the chorine generator will need to stay clean and free of mineral deposits. Regular cleaning will help care for salt water pools. You’ll also need to maintain the pool’s Ph balance as the effectiveness of your generator depends on the pool’s balance and water condition.

It’s important to understand the operation, care, and maintenance of your salt water pool. If you have concerns or questions, the contractor that handles your installation should be able to provide you with the answers. Make sure you understand when and how to check your pool’s Ph and when to clean your salt water system.

Be sure to carefully read and implement the directions that come with your salt water system. Following these instructions helps to eliminate any future problems and ensures your system functions at peak performance for years to come.

Keeping Dry with Pool Enclosure Ventilation

Pool enclosure ventilation is one of those concepts that seem a bit ironic. You have a pool full of water for swimming where you can't wait to get wet, but you need ventilation to keep the surrounding area dry. Pools naturally create a lot of evaporation and moisture, and ventilation keeps the air and surrounding area dry and healthy.

Chlorine and Salt Water Swimming Pool Maintenance

In Florida, there are salt water swimming pools that actually draw water from the sea. But for most, salt water swimming pool maintenance has nothing to do with maintaining sea water. Salt water pools have a small amount of salt in the water and a chlorine generator makes chlorine using the salt. Maintenance of these types of pools is generally easier than standard pool maintenance.
