Create Beautiful Artistic Design with Faux Finishes on Wood Floors

Learn about faux finishes on wood floors
Customizing with faux finishes on wood floors seems to be a hit with more and more people today. Faux finishing is known as a popular technique used to paint your walls and ceilings. It's also a great artistic application for wood floors.

Putting faux finishes on wood floors will require planning. Painting a work of art on your floor takes some time and requires special paints, stains and sealants to protect and prolong each added design. Faux finishes on wood floors is the perfect way to customize your home and make it your own unique creation.

Here are some great design ideas to get you started: You can really define a room by painting a border of one or two lines around the room or a certain area such as the bar. Adding corner accents on the floor is also an option to give any room a little extra embellishment. You can even paint the illusion of a rug pattern you like. Medium to large patterns are great to add in the middle of a dining room or even the foyer as a main centerpiece.

Faux Finishes on Wood Floors

The bigger the room the bigger you can go with the pattern and still possibly pull it off but I suggest either doing a medium centerpiece or smaller accents around the room. These faux finish looks are more appealing and will ensure that you do not make the room seem too busy. There are tons of things you can do with faux finishes on wood floors. Just let your creativity be your guide.

Adding faux finishes on wood floors is easiest when working with new unfinished flooring. You should drum sand and then prime the area before you do anything. For a more precise and accurate paint job, stenciling is the best way to go. If you are drawing lines on the floor using painting tape will help keep everything straight and even.

If you are working with an already established floor, the finish must be removed. The best way to remove finish is by using a machine sander. If you have never used a machine sander before, you may want to hire a professional for quality purposes. There are also many professional faux finishers available to help you with design and implementation.
