What are Crown
Mouldings?
Crown mouldings are often taken for granted when you buy a home. You
might see that the home offers these decorative design elements, but
not understand how they add to your home’s appeal. By learning more
about crown mouldings, you can further create an attractive look for
your home – without having to remodel the entire structure.
Crown Mouldings
Crown mouldings are typically made from two different kinds of
materials – wood or plastic. These pieces of material are shaped
into long boards that you can cut out designs and patterns in to add
a decorative appeal. When you install these mouldings, you can paint
them or buy them pre-painted or pre-colored to help save you a step.
They are found at wood supply stores, through online vendors, and
can be manufactured by an experienced woodworker.
You can use crown mouldings in a number of situations:
Along the walls –
Commonly found at the ceiling or at the baseboard, crown mouldings
add an attractive design to the room. By installing them along the
ceiling and floorboards, you can subtly increase the appearance of
the room, without having to change anything else.
On the ceilings – A
newer way to use crown mouldings is to add designs and shapes to
your ceilings. If you have a lighting fixture, these mouldings can
be installed around the fixture’s base to add further appeal. You
can also create large rectangle designs or square designs to create
an interesting element.
Along other
structures – From the stairs to your furniture, your doors and your
windows, you can add crown mouldings to nearly any edge that you
want to enhance. Try adding crown mouldings along the base of each
step in order to show up for your guests and other visitors in your
home. You can also create containers for your current furniture
pieces to coordinate your rooms from top to bottom.
On the outside of
your home – While most people completely forget about the exterior
of their homes, why not add crown mouldings there too? It can cause
the design to flow from the outside to the inside of your home. |

Wallpaper Borders with Wainscoting Create Room Elegance
You can achieve elegant room décor by matching wallpaper
borders with wainscoting. Simple painted walls look very plain
even when using colorful paints. At one time, wainscoting was
seen only in very expensive homes, but it's now used in all
size of houses as a way to add a decorative touch. When the
wainscoting is offset with wallpaper borders, it looks like
the room was decorated by a professional interior decorator.
